About the Opportunity

This is an open position with FirstEnergy Service Co., a subsidiary of FirstEnergy Corp.

*This role is supporting the Philipsburg Training Center - NJ location, but a successful candidate may be located out of other FirstEnergy locations subject the hiring managers approval.

 

 

Summary of Responsibilities

  • Candidate will provide training to Regional Operations employees. The primary focus for this position is the training of incumbent Line personnel as well as candidates enrolled through the PSI Line School or in-house programs.
  • Leads the design, development, and implementation activities of effective training materials and Programs.
  • Mentors associates and/or instructors through observation, providing feedback and written
    Documentation, Additionally, the successful candidate will deliver training in both formal classroom settings as well as field settings.
  • This position will also be accountable for coordinating and maintaining training facilities, equipment and hardware.
  • Administrative duties will include training documentation, reports and attendance records.
  • This candidate will be a primary company interface with young adults enrolled through the PSI Line program as well as in-house line curriculum candidates.
  • Although the primary training location for the position will be the Philipsburg  operations area in NJ, the successful candidate will be expected to support training needs system-wide on an as needed basis.
  • Supports the design, development, and implementation activities of effective training materials and programs.

 
Responsibilities at the Advanced level include all the above plus:

  • Leads the design, development, and implementation activities of effective training materials and programs. The candidate mentors junior / associate level and/or peer nstructors through observation providing feedback and written documentation.

 
Qualifications at the Distribution Instructor level:

  • Associate degree or higher with 2-4 yrs of training experience is required, OR Workforce Development approved Instructor Certification OR Journeyman level overhead line work skills with training experience (classroom or on-the-job).
  • Candidate should possess journeyman level skills in the area of line work.  ( ALL Candidates must have prior Overhead -Lines background for consideration.)
  • Must have knowledge of Transmission & Distribution construction standards, methods, practices, materials and safety regulations necessary to perform line work along with the tools and equipment used to perform this work.
  • Must have a thorough knowledge of transformers, voltage regulators, capacitors, reclosers and other equipment functions along with installation requirements and operating characteristics.
  • Must have advanced knowledge of electrical theory principals and laws for alternating and direct current.
  • Must be able to interpret blueprints, drawings, technical manuals and construction standards.
  • Must have the ability to climb wood poles, towers or structures, lift materials and equipment,
    operate construction trucks, and equipment as required.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills are essential.
  • Demonstrated skill and experience performing as an instructor (classroom or on-the-job)
  • Any additional experience in the areas of dispatching, distribution design, EHV work or network operations is a plus.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills, customer relations skills along with strong coaching and mentoring skills are a must..
     

Qualifications at the Advanced Distribution Instructor level include all the above plus:

  • Associate degree or higher with 4 plus yrs of training experience is required, OR Workforce Development approved Instructor Certification OR Journeyman level overhead line work skills with training experience (classroom or on-the-job).
  • Demonstrated skill and ability or previous experience in developing, implementing, or evaluating training programs a plus.
  • Previous technical experience (T&D Skills instructors require journeyman level skill set in one or more areas within Transmission & Distribution operations).
  • Prior experience as an instructor (classroom or on-the-job) is desirable
