Partial Job Requirements (Complete requirements are outlined in the Job Specifications.)    

  1. Under general or directive supervision, makes entries on maps and to the Geographic Information System (GIS), etc., requiring the exercise of a moderate degree of individual judgment.
  2. Performs clerical work associated with GIS, including entering and accounting for the units of property systems and various associated systems.
  3. Must have satisfactorily completed company approved course(s) in Advanced CAD operations and must be computer literate.
  4. Required to make mathematical calculations for problem solving, assist employees of higher classifications, and perform other related or less skilled work, as required.
  5. Required to perform other duties such as:  analyzing drawings and maps; field checking; compiling, posting and recording various types of data on maps, AMFM and other computer systems.
  6. Must be able to perform semi-routine operations of moderate complexity and variety based on procedures and instructions.  Must be a high school graduate or possess a GED equivalency and satisfactorily completed courses in algebra and geometry.
  7. Must have a basic understanding of Electric Utility Distribution and its components by satisfactorily completing company-approved courses or passing basic electricity entry test.
  8. Under directive supervision, at times, will be required to work alone in remote, isolated locations, checking and auditing in the field, transmission and distribution facilities.
  9. Must be familiar with Company's Safety Rules.
  10. Must have a valid driver's license.
  11. Must be willing and able to work extra and/or irregular hours.
  12. Must be willing to work with others and have good communication skills.
  13. Must have successfully completed the EEI Selection Test, TECH - Level 1 prior to entry into this classification.
  14. Must participate in the Mapping Technician Automatic Mode of Progression and will be required to train and qualify to the Mapping Technician I classification.


EEI Testing

We administer selection tests for a variety of positions. The required tests have been developed by the Edison Electric Institute (EEI), a trade association of investor-owned electric utility companies.  We strongly encourage potential employees to review all information, including the sample test brochures, and to use the available practice tests before taking the actual tests.  Click this link to access the practice tests. You will be prompted for a name and password. Use firstenergy for both.

Practice tests provide sample questions and detailed discussions of the correct answers. It's important to take the practice test as you would the actual one, with similar intensity and concentration.  You must have Adobe Acrobat Reader on your computer. 

Note: EEI website does not allow access to actual tests. Testing is held at various locations throughout our service territory based on where the job is located.
