Responsibilities for the Electrical / Instrumentation & Control (I&C) / Computer Systems Engineer include: 


  • Working in a variety of capacities on tasks related to the Plant Process Computer, Cyber Security and plant digital systems. Adhere to Computer System Engineering work processes, procedures, Software Quality Assurance, and Cyber Security programs.
  • Performing preventive and corrective maintenance functions. 
  • Performing hardware and software physical installation, testing, documentation, and maintenance activities.
  • Accountable for providing functionality and for assuring reliability and availability of computer-based applications, requiring difficult problem solving with little or no assistance and supervision within limited time constraints. This may require 24x7 availability on critical systems. Maintaining ownership and accountability for the "health" of supported systems. Serves as the main point of contact.
  • Performing computer system troubleshooting, assessments, reviews, investigations and studies.
  • Participating and providing technical assistance on Modification/Project and Process Improvement teams.
  • Maintaining cognizance of industry events and their applicability to the plant along with initiating appropriate actions.
  • Effectively managing work assignments including prioritizing, scheduling and estimating resource requirements.
  • Leading in the development of solutions to system issues in support of plant operations and maintenance during both outage and non-outage periods. Perform Emergency Response Organization (ERO) duties as assigned.




  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering or Computer Science is required.
  • Degree in Computer Engineering or Computer Science is preferred
  • Experience in Nuclear Cyber Security preferred
  • Able to understand and develop computer requirements, prepare documentation, and develop and perform computer tests.
  • An understanding of the operation and communication of digital components preferred.
  • In-depth knowledge of computer systems hardware, software, network technology, operating systems and I/O technology preferred.
  • Understanding and ability to work with (Microsoft Windows, Linux, VMware/Active Directory/Relational Database, MS SQL, ACCESS/Networking fundamentals).
  • Prior professional-level engineering experience is preferred.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and strong analytical ability.
  • Able to develop effective working relationships with all employees at FirstEnergy.
  • Able to deliver quality and accurate work within established deadlines.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, including the ability to make formal technical presentations to various management levels.
  • Work extended hours, shift schedules and perform on-call duties when necessary.
  • Reside within site-specific ERO response time
