As a participant in the Co-op/Intern Professional Development Program, you will be cultivating professional skills and performing professional level work at FirstEnergy. Each participant will receive on-the-job training, and challenging assignments to refine skills and round out competencies. Summer Internships with FirstEnergy are full-time opportunities spanning 14 weeks. FirstEnergy offers paid internships to qualified students actively enrolled in accredited university or college.

FirstEnergy Cybersecurity

Our cybersecurity team is responsible for oversight, governance and direction, cybersecurity strategy, and awareness and training for all our employees and contractors. The team is also tasked with incident response and root cause analysis; vulnerability and risk assessments; regulatory compliance and patch management oversight; security application support; and support and configuration of cybersecurity hardware and software.

About the Cyber Security Policy Analyst Opportunity:
The Cyber Security Policy Analyst works across all FirstEnergy subsidiaries and business units to protect the electric grid of FirstEnergy. Candidates must be well-versed in current cyber security and information security strategies with skills to effectively apply such strategies to a large, dynamic, heterogeneous landscape. This position requires ability to work independently as well as within groups. Sensitivity to accuracy, timeliness, and professionalism in all areas of support activity is imperative. A strong ability to read interpretively and write clearly and concisely is needed. This internship will work with and learn from Cyber Security Policy Analysts.


Responsibilities of a Cyber Security Policy Analyst:
• Act as a subject matter expert (SME) between cybersecurity and the business units in the development of appropriate policies, standards, and frameworks
• Continuously monitor trends to anticipate and plan for future impact of cyber risk on a specific business unit (BU) or function
• Follow all risk remediation protocols to ensure issues are mitigated, risks are accounted for, and exceptions are tracked in accordance with frameworks, policies and standards set by the organization
• Educate stakeholders on cybersecurity-related matters to increase awareness and improve culture
• Performs focused information risk assessments of existing or new services and technologies, along with business counterparts.
• Identifies and facilitates implementation of appropriate controls to effectively manage cyber and information risks as needed.
• Understand software and system vulnerability processes, manage vulnerability patches through a process lifecycle, and perform vulnerability assessments on systems and services
Applicant Requirements:
• Currently enrolled, full time, in a bachelor’s degree program at an accredited university/college focusing on Computer Information Systems, Information Technology or related disciplines. (Note: Candidates in a Business or English degree program with a focus on technical or business writing will also be considered)
• Class Standing – Sophomore (graduation date of December 2024 / May 2025) or Junior (graduation date December 2023 / May 2024). Graduation date MUST be listed on resume
• Maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5. GPA MUST be listed on resume
• Legally authorized to work in the U.S (without current or future sponsorship)

• Demonstrate strong communication skills, both verbal and written, to effectively participate on a team and in
remote meetings and conference calls
