About the Opportunity

This is an open position with FirstEnergy Service Co., a subsidiary of FirstEnergy Corp.

The TSOC Technologies Manager is responsible for leading the Security Engineering Team, including but not limited to providing guidance to accomplish the objectives of the Transmission Security Operations Center (TSOC). The TSOC Technologies Manager handles any escalations, issue management, or interactions related to daily operations of the suite of tools used by the TSOC. This role is responsible for overall day-to-day operations, and for the performance of Cyber Security Systems Administrators and Data Scientists.

 

The TSOC Technologies Manager is responsible for security tools management, including Security Information and Event Management (SIEM), Threat Intelligence, Security Orchestration, Automation and Response (SOAR), and big data platforms. This role provides guidance and direction for overall security tool engineering including the adoption of new software, hardware, data feeds and integrations. Responsibilities also include maintaining the reliability and availability of all security tools utilized to run the TSOC. The TSOC Technologies Manager is responsible for ensuring that Service Level Agreements (SLA’s) are being met, as well as evaluating new technologies and processes for use within the TSOC.

 

The TSOC Technologies Manager will collaborate with the TSOC organization frequently and with Transmission Operations, Cyber Security and Physical Security organizations intermittently.

 

Responsibilities Include:

  • Oversees a portfolio of security operations technologies consisting of SIEM, Threat Intelligence, SOAR, threat emulation, big data, and associated platforms/tools that are essential to critical security processes.  
  • Ensure security tools are resilient, secure and can scale for growth to support security operations.
  • Resolve system issues, that impact the operations of the TSOC, in a timely and effective manner
  • Creates system and integration development strategies, policies, and procedures by identifying problems/needs; evaluating trends and anticipating requirements.
  • Maintains a high-level of technical knowledge of platforms supported by attending webinars, conferences, and workshops; reviewing professional publications and research; and establishing personal networks.
  • Provide input to contract negotiations for required software, hardware, and consulting.
  • Develops and maintains key relationships with vendors providing products in the Security Engineering space.
  • Works across all IT managers to prioritize and schedule work requests. 
  • Responsible for supporting and maintaining compliance with various NERC CIP standards to protect the BES for FirstEnergy
  • Mentor and motivate a distributed team that scales and evolves with security and technology needs.
  • Responsible for managing staff performance by setting objectives, tracking performance, and providing feedback.  Assists in the personal growth of staff through individual development plans, mentoring, coaching and stretch job assignments.

  • Accomplish annual SOC and company performance objectives.
  • Accomplishes financial objectives by forecasting requirements, preparing an annual budget and monthly reforecasts, analyzing variances, and taking corrective action when necessary.

 

Qualifications include:

  • A Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant field.
  • 7+ years of IT and/or cyber security experience in a large organization preferred.
  • 5+ years of related management, operations, and budget experience.
  • Certifications such as CISSP, CISM, or SANS a plus.
  • Strong leadership, excellent oral and written communication skills required.
  • Ability to communicate complex and technical issues to diverse audiences, orally and in writing, in an easily understood, authoritative and actionable manner.
  • Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work with all levels of management throughout the organization.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work with highly confidential information.
  • Demonstrated understanding of best practices in system and application management encompassing strategies, policies, principles, procedures, and standards.
  • Understanding of and experience with security technology and tools.
  • Strong knowledge of core architectural design principles to achieve optimal availability and disaster recovery ability.
  • Strong ability to develop and manage critical vendor relationships.
  • Strong knowledge of core Microsoft enterprise applications and services such Active Directory identity and access management services, file/print services and other associated technologies.
  • Experience using quality assurance techniques and strategies to monitor and improve performance and ensure compliance with Service Level Agreements (SLAs).
  • Ability to effectively manage multiple tasks concurrently on a regular basis.
  • Experience with the effective use of Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint).
