About the Opportunity

This position’s base reporting location is in Wadsworth Township, Ohio with significant flexible work location opportunities and reports to the Manager of Cyber Security and TSOC.

 

The Transmission Security Technology and Engineering (TSTE) Supervisor leads the team responsible for the 24/7 operation of security-related systems protecting FirstEnergy and the electric grid. This position oversees the complete lifecycle for security-related systems such as firewalls, authentication systems, remote access VPN systems, security operations center technologies, and security-focused big data analytics platforms. This role also supports and assists with defining the cyber governance policies and controls as it relates to security-related systems and services.

 

Responsibilities Include:

  • Leads the personnel of the TSTE Team to deliver quality, secure, and functional solutions to support FirstEnergy business objectives while upholding FirstEnergy’s Core Values.
  • Manage and execute the project portfolio of the TSTE Team supporting IT Operations and the Transmission Security Operations Center (TSOC).
  • Oversees the complete lifecycle of all security-related technologies deployed at FirstEnergy from design to implementation to retirement/replacement.
  • Define staff goals and manage staff performance against goals and priorities. Directs personnel actions in accordance with the company’s guidelines and procedures. Direct and support staff development and training. Provide performance coaching as required.
  • Lead cross-functional teams to accomplish overall IT projects and objectives.
  • Represent TSTE projects, goals, and issues to various levels of management within IT.
  • Ensure security-related systems meet all federal and state regulatory requirements where applicable.
  • Respond to out-of-hours operational issues and security incidents in support of TSTE on-call staff. Lead the team to respond to security and operational incidents across FirstEnergy.

 

 

Qualifications include:

  • Associate or bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Security, or similar discipline required along with 5+ years of related experience. A degree in another field in conjunction with significant, relevant industry experience in cyber security or a similar, related discipline will be considered.
    • Related experience includes: cyber security or IT operations roles with a focus on a subset of the technologies used and managed by the team such as firewalls, IPS/IDS, endpoint protection, DLP, SIEM, SOAR, etc. Less direct experience with cyber security functions combined with a strong history of professional IT Operations will be considered.
  • Experience making strategic and tactical decisions derived from threat and risk-based analysis of security information taking into account the operational needs of the business.
  • Demonstrate effective written and verbal communication skills which includes creating and delivering presentations, briefs, and training sessions.
  • Must compose well-written, professional documents and reports.
  • Must be able to translate technical information from systems and staff into business-ready communications.
  • Demonstrate the ability to work effectively with people at varying levels within an organizational hierarchy to accomplish tasks and goals
  • Ability to travel on a frequent basis to other FirstEnergy buildings in the Akron area. Infrequent overnight business travel to locations throughout the FirstEnergy service territory (OH, PA, NJ, MD, WV) will be required of this position.
