FirstEnergy Human Resources Team
*NOTE- This postion is for areas of Contractor Safety speciality in Transmission and Distribution. .
Adv Contractor Safety Representative report to the Supervisor, Transmission and Distribution Contractor Safety.
Responsibilities include:
- Provide fleet oversight of contractor safety programs, processes, initiatives, and applicable regulatory requirements, including Contractor Safety Requirements, Contractor Safety Program, Orientation, Qualification, and/or related programs.
- Perform as a Safety and Health Subject Matter Expert (SME) with the ability to research regulatory and technical information. Monitor and communicate regulatory requirements, as they pertain to the business.
- Provide sound recommendations, innovative solutions, and competent technical guidance resulting in process improvement and/or exposure reduction.
- Collaborate with Contractor Companies, Craft Labor Leadership, and FirstEnergy Business Units (as needed) to develop Contractor safety and health programs designed to resolve business issues and promote continuous improvement.
- Lead/support Contractor safety and health program assessments.
- Assist Business Unit Leadership in promoting/enhancing knowledge of and conformity with Safety and Health programs, requirements, and expectations.
- Provide consultation during the analysis of Contractor events and assist in the development of action plans to prevent recurrence, as needed. Lead or engage with root cause analysis as needed.
- Develop and maintain progressive relationships with Craft Labor leadership.
- Assist Corporate Health and Safety with regulatory inquiries and inspections within the Business Unit, as needed.
- Analyze Contractor Safety data, including observations and performance. Provide reports as needed.
- Actively participate in the planning of Tripartite and Superintendent Safety Forums
- Participate in contractor on-site inspections and audits of work practices, methods and compliance programs. Compile and assess results for review with FE Representatives and contractors to address curtailment/improvement activities and/or practices.
- Participate and benchmark with industry groups as needed (ex. NATF, EEI, EPRI) as needed.
- Develop and deliver training and presentations as needed.
- Must be willing to travel on a regular basis to other company locations within the FirstEnergy service territory.
Other responsibilities will include:
- Educating and directing others on safety practices, improving safety program and process effectiveness, and making significant contributions to the achievement of safety goals and objectives
- Serving as the lead in diverse and complex projects, processes and programs
- Independently anticipating and meeting internal/external customer needs
- Actively developing and implementing safety programs and policies
- Integrating strategic concepts into safety activities
- Developing high-level solutions for complex assignment
Qualifications at the Advanced Contractor Safety Representative Level include:
- Bachelor’s degree in Safety, Health (Industrial Hygiene), or related discipline, with a minimum of 4-7 years of relevant work experience is required. Master’s degree preferred. (In lieu of a Bachelor’s degree (preferred), a minimum of 7 years of relevant work experience in required)
- In depth knowledge of safety and industrial hygiene regulations (OSHA General Industry and Construction) and safe work practices.
- In depth knowledge of OSHA’s Electrical Power Generation, Transmission, and Distribution regulations (Subpart R and V) (preferred)
- Basic understanding of industry standards related to Health & Safety including: American National Standards Institute (ANSI), National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), American Conference of Governmental Industrial Hygienists (ACGIH) and the National Electrical Safety Code (NESC).
- Knowledge of Human Performance Tools and Principles.
- Knowledge of Root Cause Analysis
- Experience implementing Contractor Safety Programs and managing Multi-Employer Worksites (preferred)
- Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to work both independently and in a team environment, including leading teams.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to coordinate multiple tasks and activities
- Experience working with Craft Labor organizations
- Certified Safety Professional (preferred)
- OSHA 500 Authorized Instructor for Construction (preferred)
